As a person with Autism, I am particularly passionate about tutoring kids with ADHD and/or Autism. I get them!

Why I Tutor: I deeply love to teach. My first love is storytelling, but my second is teaching. I have decided to not become a teacher, though, because I much prefer a one-on-one experience in which I can sit down with a student, struggle with them, breathe with them, and speak their language. I also get to avoid the overwhelming bureaucracy that often comes with being a teacher these days.

My Style of Tutoring: Like most people who love teaching, my favorite things to see are fascination and true, deep understanding. I prioritize depth over breadth. I will always strive to complete assignments where I can, but I would say it is my second priority beneath ensuring that a kid really understands the fundamentals of whatever we’re working on. I want them to understand why things work, not just how they work. My third priority is fascination. I try to identify what fascinates a student and reward good work on difficult topics with time spent on a topic that fascinates them.

Tutoring History: I started tutoring in 2022 as an independent contractor for a third-party organization. In August of 2023, I went freelance. During that time, I have taught English as a second language to a Ukranian my age, handwriting to an elementary school student, and many middle schoolers about math, science, history, and writing. I also often functioned as a tutor for the residential mental health clinic where I worked for some time, tutoring high schoolers in topics as advanced as trigonometry and pre-calculus.

Favorite Age Range: 11 to 16 (most experienced with Middle School)
